At Auction
With over 300 years history worldwide, an auction is the best place to buy for those preferring
challenging experiences and the atmosphere of competition. In Russia, most traditions in this
sphere meet world's relevant standards. Nevertheless, some local rules and regulations are
essential to know for prospective buyers. These are highlighted below.
Catalogues
Issued generally 1 month prior to the sale, they contain essential information for prospective
buyers, featuring lots descriptions and images, absentee bid forms, sale regulations,
instructions for those willing to participate in the sale, export information, etc.
Estimates
Quoted in Russian rubles and Virtual units (equal to US currency), estimates indicate the lower
and higher limits the hammer price is likely to be within according to the experts' opinion. At
the same time, there is no obligation to sell the lot within the estimate limits provided
competitive bidding is in progress.
Estimates may be revised at any time before the sale. Please refer to the recent Saleroom
Notice leaflet.
Opening Bid
Announced by the auctioneer, it is normally 15-25% below the lower estimate. Any
subsequent bid placed has a chance to be successful.
Preview
Opens 10 days prior to the sale. Lots included in the current sale, authenticity certificates,
and additional information available. Opening hours are quoted in the sale catalogue.
Please note that according to conditions of sale, the lot is purchased "as is" and we
would not accept any claims based on the fact that the buyer had not examined the lot properly.
Condition reports for overseas buyers provided on request.
